Carter County clean up dumpster will be on the WEST END this week and open Wednesday through Friday (9/9 - 9/11) 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

The Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce is alerting local businesses and community members to be on guard after another round of phishing and spam emails has begun circulating—this time tied to events surrounding this year’s Grayson Memory Days.

According to the Chamber, these messages may appear legitimate at first glance, but they are using spoofed email addresses to imitate trusted sources. Officials are urging recipients not to click on any links, respond to the messages, or share any personal or business information.

One key detail to keep in mind—the popular Mike Phillips Memorial Bluegrass Show is a free event, and organizers confirm there is no official attendee list being distributed. Any message claiming otherwise should be treated as suspicious.

The Chamber says situations like this are a reminder to stay cautious, double-check email sources, and report anything that seems out of the ordinary.

As Memory Days approaches, officials encourage businesses and residents alike to stay vigilant so the focus can remain where it belongs—on celebrating the community safely.

Seniors in Carter County will soon have an opportunity to receive assistance purchasing fresh, locally grown food through a statewide program.

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is offering eligible seniors vouchers to use at approved farmers markets, including the Carter County Farmer’s Market. The program provides fifty dollars to help cover the cost of fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, and even locally produced honey.

To qualify, individuals must be 60 years of age or older and meet income guidelines set at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level. The program is limited to Carter County residents.

Sign-ups will begin on Tuesday, May 20th, and will be handled by appointment only through the Carter County Extension Office. To schedule a time, residents can call 606-474-6686 or 606-713-1840 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Applicants will need to provide basic information including their name, address, phone number, date of birth, and income details. A valid government-issued ID or other proof of identification will also be required at the appointment.

Officials emphasize that walk-ins will not be accepted, so scheduling ahead is required.

Carter County Schools are asking for input from the community as they begin planning for the upcoming school year and beyond.

District officials are encouraging parents, students, and community members to take part in the 2026 Federal Programs Needs Assessment. They say the information collected through the survey will play an important role in shaping decisions that impact both individual schools and the district as a whole.

The assessment is used to help identify areas of need, guide funding priorities, and improve programs and services offered to students across Carter County.

School leaders say feedback from the community is a key part of that process, helping ensure that decisions reflect the needs and concerns of local families.

The survey is available online and can be completed through a link provided by the district.

Again, Carter County Schools are asking community members to take a few minutes to complete the 2026 Federal Programs Needs Assessment, with input helping guide future planning and improvements across the district.
