Today is the day that Carter Countians will be heading to the polls to make their voices heard for this year’s 2026 Kentucky Primary Election. Election Day voting will take place with polls open from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM local time across the county.

Several races will appear on this year’s primary ballot, including contests for United States Senate, United States Representative, magistrate seats, and constable positions, along with other local and state offices. Community members are encouraged to review their sample ballots ahead of time and verify their polling locations before heading out to vote.

Local election officials remind residents that every election plays an important role in shaping the future of our communities, and voter participation remains one of the most important ways citizens can stay involved in the democratic process.

Olive Hill’s City Council will be meeting for their regular May monthly meeting this evening at 6pm inside of the Olive Hill police station. They will be working under an agenda that includes, but is not limited to, the following discussion items: a bluegrass update, the tourism department, two ordinances labeled 2026-01 dealing with occupational matters and 2026-02 dealing with the city’s sanitation, allocation of the Olive Hill utility fund, and a chance for open discussion. Departmental reports from the Olive Hill police, fire, and code enforcement departments will be heard as well on top of the treasurer’s report for April of 2026. Finally, as always, an executive session will wrap up the meeting in accordance with KRS 61.810.

The East Carter Youth Service Center is preparing for another summer of fun, learning, and activities as registration information begins rolling out for Camp ECMS 2026.

The free summer camp will take place June 8th through the 10th at East Carter Middle School and is open to incoming sixth through eighth grade students. Camp activities will run each day from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM, with breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided for participants.

Organizers say this year’s camp will feature a wide variety of activities designed to keep students active, engaged, and learning throughout the summer break. Planned activities include swimming, tennis, art, real-life skills lessons, a trip to Malibu Jacks, and even a BMX show.

The camp is sponsored by the East Carter Youth Service Center and has become a popular summer opportunity for local middle school students. Families are encouraged to watch for permission slips and online registration information in the coming days.

Officials say space will be limited, and parents are encouraged to complete registration forms as soon as possible once they become available.

East Carter’s Class of 1976 is all set to celebrate their 50^th reunion during this weekend’s upcoming Memorial Day celebration in Grayson with a meet and greet that is scheduled for Friday from 6 until 9pm at the Public Library branch on Main Street.

Following Friday’s celebration they are also welcomed to join in the big parade on Saturday with lineup beginning at noon and the parade kicking off at 1pm. Then onto Saturday evening when between the hours of 6:30 to 10pm a special reception will be open to the 1976 class at Victory Barn featuring dinner, a photographer, and dj entertainment.
