Grayson Memory Days is fast approaching, and this week during our newscast we’re going to be taking a look at all of the fun that’s planned. As always the community is gearing up for a celebration that blends tradition, talent, and small-town spirit. The festivities kick off in earnest on Thursday, May 22nd, with a day packed full of events that welcome visitors and residents alike back to Main Street.
At 11:00 AM, the Golden Age Gala gets the ball rolling at 4-Ever After Weddings & Events, honoring local seniors with a touch of elegance and appreciation. Later that afternoon, downtown begins to buzz as merchant and food vendors open shop along Pomeroy Street and at The Blue Goose Building starting at 4:00 PM. Shoppers and snackers can explore local offerings while enjoying the return of the Arts Contest, where artwork from the community will be displayed in storefronts and public spaces throughout the heart of town.
The official Opening Ceremonies take place at 6:00 PM on the Go Radio Stage, with a moving veterans’ tribute, guest speakers, and a ceremonial ribbon cutting. Community members are encouraged to bring a comfortable chair and stay for the evening’s entertainment, including a performance by the Dance with Hope troupe at 6:30 PM, followed by the lively sounds of City Heat at 8:00 PM.
Friday, May 23rd builds on the momentum with a slate of events that highlight Grayson’s deep roots in creativity and community. One of the most anticipated annual traditions—the Duane Suttles Memorial Day BBQ—starts at 4:00 PM on East Third Street. Sponsored by First National Bank, this fan-favorite fills the air with the unmistakable aroma of grilled goodness until the food runs out.
Over at Bayless Memorial Presbyterian Church, families are invited to the Ice Cream Social on the church lawn from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, a sweet opportunity to catch up with old friends. And over at the Grayson Art Gallery, the East Carter High School Student Art Show will be open from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, featuring student creations, live music, and refreshments.
Friday night ends on a high note with the 2025 Memory Days Battle of the Bands at 7:30 PM. Whether you’re a fan of rock, bluegrass, or anything in between, this showdown of local musical talent is always a crowd-pleaser.

Drivers passing through downtown Grayson throughout this week may want to plan for a few detours, as the Grayson Utility Commission begins its next phase of waterline replacement work on Monday, May 5.
According to the Commission, the project will kick off with a temporary closure of the intersection at Pomeroy Street and 2nd Street. The work is expected to include a localized service outage for some nearby customers on Monday, with those affected already notified in advance.
From there, construction crews will continue work along Pomeroy Street heading west toward Main Street. Once that portion is completed, the crew plans to shift to 3rd Street and move west toward Hord Street. Throughout the process, the Utility Commission is encouraging motorists to use alternate routes and allow extra time for travel.
The Commission also asks that drivers remain alert in the area, use safe driving habits, and anticipate some delays as the work progresses.
As always, the timeline for the project may be adjusted if the weather doesn’t cooperate or if any unforeseen complications arise.

Celebrate Recovery, a weekly meeting series held at the First Church of Christ in Grayson on Pomeroy Street, will begin tonight’s meeting at 6:30pm. At the meetings those in attendance will learn the secrets of victorious living over issues such as: addictions, anger, depression, mental stresses, and much more. Large and small group meetings will be held each week. All are welcome to attend, and free food will be offered to all who are in attendance.
