Carter County clean up dumpster will be on the EAST END this week and open Wednesday through Friday (10/14 - 10/16) 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

With the November General Election approaching, voters in Carter County are encouraged to take note of several important dates and deadlines for registering and casting their ballots.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd, and polls will be open from 6 o’clock in the morning until 6 o’clock in the evening. If you still need to register to vote, the deadline is Monday, October 5th. Online registration must be completed by 4 o’clock that afternoon. Registration cards mailed in must be postmarked by October 5th, and cards delivered to the County Clerk’s Office can be accepted through the close of business.

For voters who plan to cast an absentee ballot, the online request portal opened September 19th. The deadline to request a mail-in absentee ballot is Tuesday, October 20th, at 11:59 PM.

The Carter County election information also lists several opportunities to vote in person before Election Day. Excused in-person absentee voting is scheduled for October 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 26th, 27th, and 28th, at the Grayson office, from 8:30 in the morning until 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

Then, no excuse early in-person voting will be available Thursday, October 29th, through Saturday, October 31st, at both the Grayson and Olive Hill locations, from 8 AM until 4 PM. If you plan to vote early, be sure to confirm the location and hours before heading out.

And for those voting on Election Day, all precincts will be open from 6 AM until 6 PM.

Voters can check their registration, find their polling location, review absentee voting information, and access other election resources through the Kentucky State Board of Elections website at GoVote dot KY dot gov.

Again, the key dates to remember are October 5th for voter registration, October 20th for requesting a mail-in absentee ballot, October 29th through the 31st for no-excuse early voting, and Tuesday, November 3rd, for Election Day.

Make a plan, check your information ahead of time, and be sure you know when and where you can cast your ballot.

Families looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday together while learning more about healthy living will have another opportunity this fall as Healthy Hoopla returns to Camp Landing in Ashland.

The third annual Healthy Hoopla, organized by UK King’s Daughters along with a number of community partners, is coming up Saturday, October 10th, from 11 AM until 2 PM at Camp Landing, 10699 U.S. Route 60 in Ashland.

And the best part is that everything at Healthy Hoopla is free.

Families can enjoy a variety of activities while also taking advantage of health information and screenings.

There will be free health screenings, along with health education covering topics including mental health, heart disease, cancer and more.

And there’s plenty for the kids to enjoy, too.

Malibu Jack’s is providing a free 10-dollar voucher that can be used toward attractions and games.

The first 200 people attending will also receive a voucher for free frozen custard from Whit’s Frozen Custard.

There will be a free petting zoo, sponsored by UK HealthCare, as well as free inflatables sponsored by Camp Landing.

One of the unique attractions returning for Healthy Hoopla is the Smoothie Bike. It’s a stationary bicycle connected to a blender, allowing participants to use their own pedaling power to blend the ingredients for a healthy smoothie — and then enjoy the smoothie for free.

You’ll also have an opportunity to meet volunteers from the UK King’s Daughters K-9 team.

And if transportation is a concern, organizers have that covered as well. The City of Ashland Bus System will provide free transportation to and from the event, with routes running every 30 minutes.

Organizers say even more activities will be added to the Healthy Hoopla lineup over the next several weeks.

The event is made possible through the support of the City of Ashland, Boyd County Government, Camp Landing Entertainment District, Malibu Jack’s, UK King’s Daughters, the King’s Daughters Health Foundation, and UK HealthCare.

So mark your calendar for Saturday, October 10th, and make plans to bring the family to Camp Landing for the third annual Healthy Hoopla.

It’s three hours of free family fun, free activities, health screenings, education and plenty of opportunities to learn something that could help you and your family live a little healthier.

Again, Healthy Hoopla takes place Saturday, October 10th, from 11 AM until 2 PM at Camp Landing in Ashland.
