Carter County clean up dumpster will be on the EAST END this week and open Wednesday through Friday (10/14 - 10/16) 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

Grayson City Council will hold its regular monthly meeting for September this evening, Tuesday, September 8th, beginning at 5:30.

There are several items on the agenda that could be of interest to residents. Under new business, council members are scheduled to open bids for a new fire truck apparatus. They’ll also discuss setting the city’s trick-or-treat times for 2026, something parents and families will want to keep an eye on as Halloween approaches.

Council is also expected to consider the appointment of a City Clerk. A number of departmental reports are on the agenda as well. Council will hear updates from code enforcement and alcohol beverage control, emergency management, and the city’s police, fire, and street departments. Those reports give council members an opportunity to hear updates and discuss ongoing issues and activity in those areas. Later in the meeting, administration and park board reports are scheduled for discussion.

Council will also have the first reading of a proposed roadway sign ordinance. Since this is the first reading, the ordinance is being introduced and discussed as part of the process before any further action is taken. The meeting is scheduled to wrap up with an executive session, being held in accordance with KRS 61.810.

Again, the regular September meeting of the Grayson City Council is tonight, Tuesday, September 8th, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public, so if you’re interested in what’s happening with city government, tonight’s meeting is an opportunity to hear those discussions firsthand.

If you have a young child who loves to touch, explore, move, and discover how the world around them works, the Carter County Cooperative Extension Service has a brand-new opportunity that sounds like a lot of fun. It’s called Sensory Explorers, and it’s a new four-week series of hands-on sensory play designed specifically for young children ages two through five and their caregivers.

The classes will be held at the Carter County Extension Playroom at 94 Fairground Drive in Grayson, and each week will offer a different theme and a new way for children to learn through play.

The first class is coming up Wednesday, September 16th, and the theme will be Colors. That will be followed by Apples on September 23rd, Farm on September 30th, and the series will wrap up with Fire Safety on October 7th. Each class runs from 10:30 until 11:30 in the morning, and the idea is to give children plenty of opportunities to explore in a hands-on, age-appropriate environment.

The Extension Service says each session combines a story, movement activities, and open-ended sensory stations where children can explore at their own pace.

And that’s an important part of what makes sensory play so valuable for young children. They’re not simply sitting and being told about colors, apples, farms, or fire safety. They’re getting the opportunity to interact with their surroundings, use their senses, move around, ask questions, and discover things for themselves.

The program was created and will be led by Rachael Fitzpatrick, a former kindergarten teacher with more than ten years of experience in early childhood education.

The cost is 15 dollars per class, and an adult must be present with the child. Registration is required, so if Sensory Explorers sounds like something your little explorer would enjoy, you’ll want to get registered ahead of time.

Again, the four-week series begins Wednesday, September 16th, at the Carter County Extension Playroom, located at 94 Fairground Drive in Grayson. It’s a chance for local children to learn, play, move, and explore, while caregivers get to be part of the experience right alongside them.

Sensory Explorers is a brand-new offering from the Carter County Cooperative Extension Service, and registration is required. You can register through the Carter County Extension Service or scan the registration QR code on their Sensory Explorers information.
