There has been some discussion circulating online and throughout our communities regarding the divisive Fuel Adjustment Clause that affects customers that are on plans with Grayson Rural Electric. At the end of last week GRECC took to their official social media platforms to release a statement and share their side of this ongoing discussion. According to the aforementioned post: “The Fuel Adjustment Clause (charge or credit) is a direct pass through from our power supplier, EKPC that appears on our members bill each month. This is not a new line item on your bill.” As the statement continues please note that the acronym FAC will be used to refer to the clause from here on out.
GRECC’s statement continued with: “The FAC was high this month due to an under recovery from previous months and a normalization of our weather and usage. The charge follows significant FAC credits members received in January and February. We have been working on solutions to decrease the volatility with the FAC in the future and hope to have them in place by our next billing.”
Finally, your local electric co-op wrapped up their thoughts by saying: “We are happy to work with our members needing assistance with their bill.” Before offering the following helpline numbers 877-294-4910 or 800-562-3532 which will allow customers to speak with a representative in setting up a payment plan or moving to a levelized billing option.

After the recent string of inclement weather that has swept through the Commonwealth, FEMA has posted a public notice online announcing its intent to provide financial assistance throughout the state. This assistance is aiming to support Kentucky survivors who experienced loss as the result of Feb. 14 – March 7 severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides and mudslides.
This notice applies to the Individual Assistance, Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation grants programs implemented under the authority of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. This public notice concerns activities that may affect historic properties, activities that are located in or affect wetland areas and the 100-year floodplain, and activities that may involve critical actions within the 500-year floodplain.
This newly posted notice follows Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear issuing his own comments in an update following severe storms that brought flooding damage across the Bluegrass State. In those comments Governor Beshear said “Four days of severe storms have brought devastation to communities across the commonwealth.” Before continuing to say “While the threat of severe storms has ended, several rivers and creeks remain at or above flood stage and roadways remain under water in several areas. So we need folks to remain cautious.”

This weekend will play host to the 11th Annual Family and Friends of Autism Walk event. Saturday, April 19th is the scheduled date for this year’s annual holding, with the walk kicking off at approximately 10am. Officials in charge of the Carter County Clean-Up campaign have announced that they will be on the East end of Carter County this week – and due to the upcoming Easter holiday this weekend the dumpster availability will be held Wednesday and Thursday. Dumpsters will be open at the maintenance garage located in Grayson where clean-up personnel will be on site to help you unload your garbage between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm.
The County Clean-Up has now extended their list of non-accepted items to include: refrigerators, deep freezers, or televisions that’s along with household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries – please note that none of these items will be collected. Also remember that all garbage must also be bagged or boxed with no loose items being collected on site. The County Clean-Up campaign works on a rotating schedule and alternates between the East and West end of our county on a bi-weekly basis. After their stay this week it has been announced that dumpsters will be returning to the Maintenance Garage along US 60 on the dates of April 23rd through the 25th.
Once again dumpsters will be open Wednesday and Thursday of this week on the East end of the county between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm.
