Grayson’s annual Memory Days celebration is fast approaching, and Grayson is getting ready for four big days of fun — happening Thursday, May 22nd through Sunday, May 25th. This year’s theme, “A Walk Down Memory Lane,” promises a weekend packed with activities for all ages.
For today’s newscast, we’re spotlighting a few of the standout events planned for the weekend, beginning with the brand-new Battle of the Bands, taking the Main Stage on Friday evening, May 23rd. Bands interested in competing can visit the official Memory Days Hub at www.graysonchamber.com for rules, registration, and guidelines. The grand prize? The winning band will open for Dustin Burchett & Kentucky Clear on Saturday night – so be prepared to bring your best performance and compete against the many talented local musicians in our area.
Speaking of Saturday, that’s the date of May 24th, we’ll see the return of Grayson’s Got Talent which is now proudly in its third year. Organizers are currently in the process of looking for acts: ranging from everything like singers and musicians, to even more unique talents like comedians or ventriloquists. If you have a unique talent then this is your chance to show it off. Cash prizes will be awarded for the first, second, and third place winners, and the first-place winner will earn a spot to open at one of the entertainment nights during next year’s Memory Days in 2026.
A special salute to local veterans will also be part of this year’s Memory Days celebration in Grayson. During the Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, May 22nd, a Veterans Highlight Reel will be shown to honor area veterans and their families. Submissions are open now — you can scan the QR code on the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page to submit a veteran’s information, or email mcclain.dyer@gmail.com. Email entries should use “VETERANS HIGHLIGHT REEL” as the subject line, and include the veteran’s name, date of birth, branch of service, and a photo.
The deadline to submit is Saturday, May 10th. It’s all part of the special ways Grayson’s Memory Days is celebrating our community heroes this year.
Of course, no Memory Days celebration would be complete without the annual parade and it’s set to once again bring Main Street to life here in 2025. It follows the same theme as the entire 4-day event – which once again is “A Walk Down Memory Lane” – and official signups are opening at midnight on Thursday, May 1st. As has been the case in the past head on over to the Memory Days Hub of www.graysonchamber.com to find the entry forms needed to secure your business’s, organization’s, or float’s spot in the parade.
New this year, immediately following Saturday’s parade, there will be a Block Party on Main Street, featuring live music, fun activities, and a pizza eating contest sponsored by Papa John’s of Grayson. The community Block Party is just one of several new events which will fill the lineup of the annual festivities. The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the East end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage in Grayson, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Wednesday through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Olive Hill maintenance garage along US 60 from May 7th through May 9th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
