Any Carter County resident who has yet to pay their 2024 County Property Tax bill is quickly closing in on the last deadline. Currently all delinquent tax bills will be transferred to the County Clerk’s Office as of the close of business on April 15th.
Here’s another reminder that when mailing in your payment you are being asked to include a postcard or to write the bill number on the check which you are paying with. Please note that if you want to receive a paid receipt for this payment then you must enclose a self-addressed and stamped envelope with the check.
Payments will also be accepted through Visa and Master Card platforms both over the phone and at the Sheriff’s office in person – however a small additional fee will be applied to all credit card payments no matter the method used. The Carter County Sheriff’s Department works under the mailing address of P.O. Box 1590, Grayson, KY 41143.
Currently payment penalties have increased to a 10% penalty along with an additional 10% Sheriff’s add-on fee. In addition to the penalties and fees that are applied by the Sheriff’s Office, all payments made in the County Clerk’s Office are subject to a 20% County Attorney’s Fee, a 10% County Clerk’s Fee and additional interest equal to 1% per month. The delinquency is also subject to being sold to a Third Party in the summer of 2025.

April’s Laugh and Learn Playdates brought to you by the Carter County FCS Extension office had a minor change in schedule, and have moved up their West end Olive Hill playdate. It will now be meeting on Friday, April 11th inside the Olive Hill Elementary School Family Resource Center which has an entrance located at the back of the school. Children up to 5 years of age are welcome to attend, and are required to have their parent or guardian stay with them. Later in the month of April another playdate for East end children will be held on the 25th at the Carter County Extension Office.

Here’s a reminder about the working calendar that the Carter County School System is observing for the remainder of the 2025 school year. The final day of classroom activities for students has been set as Friday, May 30th. Official graduation dates for East and West Carter have been set for the school year as well. Those festivities have been set for the following dates: West Carter High School will celebrate graduation on Friday, May 30th beginning at 7pm and East Carter High School will follow the next day on Saturday, May 31st at 10am.

Officials in charge of the Carter County Clean-Up campaign have announced that they will be on West end of Carter County this week – and that dumpster availability has returned to their regular 3 day per week operations. Dumpsters will be open at the maintenance garage located along US 60 where clean-up personnel will be on site to help you unload your garbage between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm.
The County Clean-Up has now extended their list of non-accepted items to include: refrigerators, deep freezers, or televisions that’s along with household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries – please note that none of these items will be collected. Also remember that all garbage must also be bagged or boxed with no loose items being collected on site. The County Clean-Up campaign works on a rotating schedule and alternate between the East and West end of our county on a bi-weekly basis. After their stay this week it has been announced that dumpsters will be returning to the Maintenance Garage in Grayson on the dates of April 16th through the 18th.
Once again dumpsters will be open Wednesday through Friday of this week on the West end of the county between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm.
