Tonight is Papa John’s Night at the Fair and it comes complete with the start of this year’s Midway fun, a returning cheesy competition, and plenty of motocross thrills for everyone to enjoy. For just $15 worth of admission you can come out and enjoy a full evening of entertainment – and yes tonight is the first night that carnival rides will be included. The petting zoo runs from 5:30 to 9 pm, and the Exhibit Hall is open for viewing from 6 to 8.
At 6 pm, the Great American Carnival swings into action. Then at 6:30, head to the Midway Stage to sign up for the Talent Show, which kicks off at 7 pm. Got a big appetite? Test your limits in the Papa John’s Pizza Eating Contest at 7:30 — signups happen on-site, but spots are limited.
Over at the Motor Arena, the Tri-State MX Motocross revs up at 7 pm (rider practice starts at 6). From the thrill of horsepower to plenty of pepperoni, Papa John’s night at the Fair is sure to have a little something for everyone.

Prichard Elementary gears up to go Back-to-School with supplies, camps, and an open house. With the first day of school fast approaching, Prichard Elementary is setting students up for success through a series of events designed to get the year off to a strong start.
School Kickoff will be August 11th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. During this time the PFRC (Prichard Family Resource Center) is hosting a School Kickoff event at the Family Resource Building. Families are welcome to stop by to pick up free school supplies and backpacks—a helping hand as the school year begins.
Then a Kindergarten Camp is up next on August 12th when incoming kindergarten students will have a special opportunity to explore their new school and meet some familiar faces.
Students with last names A–M should attend from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Followed by students with last names N–Z attending from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. It’s a chance for little learners to get comfortable and excited before the first bell rings.
Finally the Back-to-School Open House is scheduled for August 20th from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. That evening students and families are invited back to school for an evening where visitors can meet teachers, check out classrooms, and get a preview of what’s ahead for the school year.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the East end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage in Grayson, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Olive Hill maintenance garage along US 60 from August 13th through the 15th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
Again, dumpsters are open this Wednesday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the East end site in Grayson.
