As the temperatures keep dropping here in Carter County, one local group is stepping up once again to make sure every child stays warm this winter. Fostering Possibilities Boutique is hosting their annual Free Winter Coat Giveaway, and it’s happening today at East Carter Middle School.
From 4:30 to 6:00 PM, families can stop by and pick out a warm, cozy coat at absolutely no cost. It’s all first-come, first-served, and supplies are limited — so if your family could use a little extra help this season, make plans to get there early.
This giveaway has become a heartfelt tradition in our community… a simple act of kindness that makes a real difference, especially as the cold sets in. Once again, Fostering Possibilities Boutique is reminding us what hometown compassion looks like — neighbors helping neighbors, making sure every child walks into winter with warmth on their back and a smile on their face.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office is letting the community know about a job opportunity that’s now open right here at home.
The Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for an Office Clerk position, with applications being taken now through December 31st. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to work in a professional office setting while serving the public and supporting local law enforcement.
Anyone interested can pick up an application in person at the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon. Interviews for the position will be conducted after the first of the year, giving applicants time to submit their paperwork before the deadline.

As the holiday season settles in and families prepare for a brand-new year, the Carter County Health Department is teaming up with Pathways and the KY-Moms Program to offer something truly meaningful — a free virtual workshop designed to support healthy moms and healthy babies right here at home.
Today’s online session is created especially for women who are pregnant or within 60 days postpartum and who have not yet attended a KY-Moms Healthy Baby Workshop. And if you or someone in your life fits that description, this is a chance to learn, connect, and gather resources that can make a real difference during one of life’s biggest transitions.
The sessions is completely free, and organizers say they’re packed with helpful tools, guidance, and support for navigating pregnancy and those early weeks with a newborn.
Participants will also receive a $50 gift card, along with access to resources designed to empower new moms — from health information and parenting tips to community contacts and services many families didn’t even know were available.
Once again, that’s a free virtual Healthy Mom & Baby workshop an encouraging opportunity to feel supported, informed, and connected during such an important season of life.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the West end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage along US 60, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to be closed the week of Christmas so that the collection team can spend time with their friends and loved ones.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
Again, dumpsters are open today through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the West end site in Olive Hill.
