The countdown is officially on as we are now one week out from the big day. Christmas is right around the corner, and for those that haven’t quite finished up their shopping list don’t worry because there’s still time. And let this act as your reminder to get out and shop local right here throughout Carter County for this holiday season. Keeping our spending dollars local helps that very same money circulate throughout our communities and lead to bigger and better things for those that call Carter County home.
Your locally owned businesses appreciate the patronage during the busiest shopping time of the year and there are plenty of shops for you to stop in and browse. Along the Peppermint Trail in Grayson you can find participating businesses like Bit O’Time Treasures, Nook & Cranny Coffee Shop, Luna Corvus and Broken Drum Records, Horton Brothers and Brown, Collins & Company, Grayson’s Sporting Goods, Rupert’s and even more. But even those businesses that aren’t along Main Street would love to help you finish up those Christmas lists.

A special meeting of the Grayson City Council is scheduled for today when they will meet inside the Grayson Municipal Building at 11:30am. The agenda for today’s meeting includes but is not limited to: the 2nd reading of the city of Grayson GO lease and an agreement with the Commercial Bank, 2nd reading of a leash ordinance, some street resolutions, and another 2nd reading which will focus on the compensation of the elected officials of the City of Grayson.
Although there is important businesses to attend to the City Council is making time for a festive event following the adjournment of the meeting when they will enjoy a Christmas dinner together. Once again this special session meeting will be held at the Grayson Municipal Building at 11:30 am today.
East Carter High School’s band is gearing up to hold a very special Christmas Concert inside of the Harold L. Holbrook Athletic Complex on the evening of Thursday, December 19th. All of the festive music will begin at approximately 7pm. Throughout the evening you’ll be treated to the sounds of the season by not only the talented East Carter High School Band, but also from special guest soloist Allyson Robinson.
This concert is free and open to the public. All are being invited and are welcome to attend. Once again this special Christmas Concert will be held on Thursday, December 19th at 7pm.
Today is the day that Casey’s Lanes will be holding a special meet and greet with Santa and the Grinch from 5 until 6pm. At the bowling center’s location at 530 North Carol Malone Blvd you’re being invited to bring the whole family for a special interaction with the evening’s guests. The children can share their wishes, snap festive photos of the experience, and enjoy all the joy of the Christmas holiday season at Casey’s Lanes. Also during the evening open skate will be from 5 until 10pm for everyone to stay around and enjoy.

Officials in charge of the Carter County Clean-Up campaign have announced that they will be on West end of Carter County this week – and will be open on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Dumpsters will be open at the maintenance garage located on US 60 where clean-up personnel will be on site to help you unload your garbage between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm.
The County Clean-Up has now extended their list of non-accepted items to include: refrigerators, deep freezers, or televisions that’s along with household garbage, paint, tires, and batteries – please note that none of these items will be collected. Also remember that all garbage must also be bagged or boxed with no loose items being collected on site. The County Clean-Up campaign works on a rotating schedule and alternate between the East and West end of our county on a bi-weekly basis. It has not been announced what the Cleanup’s plans are for next week and their schedule is subject to change due to next week’s Christmas holiday.
Once again dumpsters will be open today through Friday on the West end of the county between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm.
