Students at East Carter High School are working on something special that will leave a lasting mark on their campus — and they’re inviting the entire community to be part of it.
The East Carter High School Class of 2026 has launched a new fundraiser to create what’s being called the Raider Legacy Garden. The garden will be built on the East Carter High School campus and is designed to honor the people and stories that have shaped the school since it first opened its doors back in 1971.
Organizers say the garden will serve as a place of reflection, remembrance, and pride — recognizing alumni, former and current teachers and staff, students, families, and supporters who have all played a role in the East Carter story over the years.
As part of the project, community members can purchase engraved bricks that will become a permanent part of the garden. These bricks can be personalized to honor a loved one, celebrate your own time at East Carter, recognize a favorite teacher or coach, or simply show your Raider pride.
Each engraved brick will help tell the story of East Carter High School — one name, one memory, one generation at a time — creating a space that students and visitors will be able to enjoy for years to come.
The deadline to purchase a brick is April 1st, 2026, and all proceeds will go toward making the Raider Legacy Garden a reality.

Kentucky Power, in partnership with SOAR’s Eastern Kentucky Talent Network and Ashland Community and Technical College Career Services, will host a hiring event on Wednesday, January 14th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., right here in Grayson.
The event focuses on full-time Remote Customer Service Representative positions, offering an opportunity for individuals to pursue stable employment without the need for daily commuting. Organizers say these roles provide reliable work schedules, opportunities for advancement, and the chance to build a long-term career with a well-established company.
Those attending the event will have the opportunity to meet directly with hiring leaders, ask questions about the positions, and potentially move quickly through the hiring process. Representatives say the goal is to connect qualified candidates with meaningful work as efficiently as possible.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the West end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage along US 60, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items today and Friday. Dumpsters will be closed on Thursday this year for the New Years holiday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from January 7th through the 9th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
Again, dumpsters are open today and Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the West end site in Olive Hill.
