As the holiday season settles in and families prepare for a brand-new year, the Carter County Health Department is teaming up with Pathways and the KY-Moms Program to offer something truly meaningful — two free virtual workshops designed to support healthy moms and healthy babies right here at home.
These online sessions are created especially for women who are pregnant or within 60 days postpartum and who have not yet attended a KY-Moms Healthy Baby Workshop. And if you or someone in your life fits that description, this is a chance to learn, connect, and gather resources that can make a real difference during one of life’s biggest transitions.
The first workshop is set for December 11th, with a registration deadline of December 8th. The second will follow the next week on December 17th, with sign-ups open until December 15th. Both sessions are completely free, and organizers say they’re packed with helpful tools, guidance, and support for navigating pregnancy and those early weeks with a newborn.
Participants will also receive a $50 gift card, along with access to resources designed to empower new moms — from health information and parenting tips to community contacts and services many families didn’t even know were available.

In Olive Hill, the Christmas season doesn’t officially begin when the lights go up or the trees go out — it begins when the community comes together. And right now, the folks behind Christmas at the Depot are putting out the call for anyone with a little holiday spirit to spare.
This beloved annual tradition is one of the most generous events in our region — a completely free, family-friendly, outdoor celebration built entirely by volunteers. And this year, they’re hoping even more helping hands will step forward to make the magic happen.
Organizers say they’ll be handing out just about everything that makes the season warm and bright: hot chocolate, coffee, toys, blankets, coats, hats, gloves, baked goods, candies, hot dogs, s’mores, popcorn… and the list keeps going. Local groups set up, serve, greet, and give — and every bit of it is free to anyone who attends.
And of course, Santa himself will be rolling into town, ready to hand out a special gift to every child 13 and under. No lines at the mall, no ticket prices, just genuine small-town Christmas joy.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the West end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage along US 60, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from December 10th through the 12th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
Again, dumpsters are open today through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the West end site in Olive Hill.
