Officials from District Nine of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have confirmed that there is currently a closure on KY 1 in Greenup County at Crane Creek located approximately at milepoint 0.5, which is located just north of the Carter County line. This closure was required due to a pavement break in the area brought on during the recent high water, and the closure is set to continue until further notice for public safety reasons due to severe drop off and continued settlement. Officials noted that both barricades and cones have been placed at each end of Crane Creek Road to warn motorists and that for your own safety you should not pass these barricades.
As of right now no news has been made available about the repairs that will be needed or when they will be carried out, however KYTC District Nine is in the planning stages for that project.
Once again this closure is on KY 1 at Crane Creek that’s milepoint 0.5 in Greenup County north of the Carter County Line.

We want to remind everyone that a new requirement is now in place for all Kentuckians when it comes to renewing their driver’s license which comes in the form of a vision screening and took effect on the date of January 1st 2025.
According to officials from the KYTC the new vision screening requirement has been enacted through the passed House Bill 439 and “will enhance highway safety by ensuring drivers maintain acceptable vision standards when behind the wheel.” Once this goes into effect at the start of the next calendar year it will essentially ensure that motorists benefit from periodic screenings throughout their driving career on a cycle of every four to eight years depending on the license lifespan they choose. This, in turn, allows drivers on our roadways the peace of mind in knowing that each driver possesses the necessary visual capabilities to safely operate a vehicle, respond to road conditions, and prevent crashes.

We would like to remind everyone about the ongoing Fostering Possibilities initiative that works diligently to provide for those in need. The program works with the selfless mission to provide new clothing and other resources to local foster children along with children in kinship placements. This is done to help foster a feeling of self-esteem and belonging in the children during a difficult time of change in their lives.
The Fostering Possibilities boutique is located at 310 Carol Malone Blvd in Grayson, and is accepting any and all donations from generous members of the community to help them better serve the foster youth of Carter County.
