As county fair season gets underway across Kentucky, the Carter County Extension Office is encouraging residents to show their support for the young people whose hard work and dedication help make the fair a highlight of the summer.
County fairs are much more than rides and food. They also provide an opportunity for local 4-H members to showcase the projects, skills, and experiences they’ve developed throughout the year. From livestock exhibitions and horse shows to educational displays and creative projects, each exhibit represents months of learning, preparation, and commitment.
Extension officials say one of the best ways to encourage these young participants is simply by showing up. Community members are invited to attend competitions, congratulate exhibitors on their accomplishments, and take time to learn more about the projects on display. Those interested can also support local 4-H members by volunteering at county fair events, helping promote the 4-H program, or participating in livestock sales when available.
Programs like 4-H continue to play an important role in developing leadership, responsibility, teamwork, and practical life skills for young people across Carter County. The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the East end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage located in Grayson, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from July 29th through the 31st.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Again, dumpsters are open today through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the East end site in Grayson.
