We’ve got more information from District Nine of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet about ongoing roadwork in our area as a traffic advisory has been placed in effect at KY 2078 Carter County for a Box Culvert Repair Extended Through July 8 which includes a one lane closure.
Highway crews have had to extend the temporary closure of part of KY 2078 (Perry Branch) at milepoint 2.7, to one lane for a box culvert repair. Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals. Repair was expected to be complete by June 24, but due to inclement weather, that date has been changed to Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Road work schedules may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.

The East Carter High School Class of 1975 will celebrate its 50th Class Reunion this summer with a special gathering planned for Saturday, August 2nd at Carter Caves State Resort Park.
Registration for the event will begin at 5:30 PM at the park, with guests asked to offer a donation at the door. Dinner will follow, with a buffet meal served in the dining room. Payment for the meal will be made on-site during the event.

The annual Carter County Poetry Society’s contest is officially underway, and writers of all ages are encouraged to pick up their pens and share their creativity.
This beloved tradition gives local poets a chance to showcase their talent, whether they’re seasoned writers or just beginning to explore the world of verse. As always, elementary, middle, and high school students can enter the contest completely free of charge—offering young voices a special opportunity to express themselves and be recognized for their words.
Brochures with full details on contest rules and categories are now available at both branches of the Carter County Public Library, making it easy for interested writers to get involved.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the East end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage in Grayson, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Wednesday through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Olive Hill maintenance garage along US 60 from July 2nd and the 3rd.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
Again, dumpsters are open this Wednesday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the East end site in Grayson.
