Carter County clean up dumpster will be on the EAST END this week and open Wednesday through Friday (10/14 - 10/16) 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

The Elliott County Cooperative Extension Service is notifying residents about a pair of scheduling changes for upcoming community meetings and training events.

Extension officials say the BOCA and CAIP meeting that had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, March seventeenth has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. The event has now been rescheduled for Tuesday, April fourteenth at the Elliott County Extension Office.

Under the updated schedule, the BOCA meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by the CAIP meeting at 6:30 p.m. Officials say the meetings are part of ongoing efforts to help local agricultural producers stay informed about available programs and opportunities.

Extension officials are also announcing a change involving the upcoming Farmers Market Vendor Training. The morning session that had been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March eighteenth has been cancelled.

However, the evening training session planned for 5:00 p.m. that same day will still take place as scheduled.

Organizers say the vendor training is designed to provide guidance and helpful information for those interested in participating in local farmers markets, including rules, procedures, and tips for successful market participation.

The Elliott County Extension Service says it appreciates the public’s understanding regarding the scheduling adjustments and looks forward to seeing participants at the rescheduled and remaining events.

Anyone who has questions about either the BOCA and CAIP meetings or the Farmers Market Vendor Training can contact the Elliott County Extension Office directly at 606-738-6400.

Donโ€™t forget about the ongoing work being conducted by District Nine of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as a traffic advisory is still ongoing on US 60 West of Olive Hill. Daily delays will occur during working hours of 7am to 6pm. In the area crews will begin benching back and removing material from the cut through on top of “New Road Hill” on US 60, west of Olive Hill. This is close to the Globe Funeral Home at milepoints 6.6 at Tanger Drive to 6.9 at Flannery Cemetery Road. The road will have flagged traffic and motorists should expect “LONG” delays while excavators break up overhanging rock and debris down into the roadway.

Once again work will take place during daylight hours beginning at 7am and running through 6pm.

Electronic message boards will be placed in advance to warn travelers of road work ahead/delays ahead. All motorists should make plans to detour that day or seek alternate routes. Non CDL traffic should use KY 2078 as a detour around the work zone.

Road work schedules may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the West end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage located along US 60, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.

As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed โ€” no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from March 18th through the 20th.

This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Again, dumpsters are open today through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the West end site in Olive Hill.
