Graduation plans are now in place for Carter County seniors as the school year begins to wind down.
The Carter County Board of Education has officially announced the 2025–2026 graduation schedule for both high schools in the district.
Seniors at East Carter High School will hold their graduation ceremony on Friday, May twenty-second at 7:00 p.m., while students at West Carter High School will graduate the following morning on Saturday, May 23rd at 10:00 a.m.
School officials say the ceremonies are once again scheduled during Memorial Day weekend, a decision that was made after hearing from families across the district. Many expressed that the holiday weekend provides a convenient time for gatherings, celebrations, and for out-of-town relatives to attend.
The last day of school is currently set for May 29th, though officials note that date remains tentative.
Looking ahead, the district says it plans to gather additional feedback from families and the community. A survey will be sent out following this year’s ceremonies to help determine preferences for future graduation scheduling.
School leaders say the goal is to continue making graduation as accessible and meaningful as possible for students and their families, while also taking community input into account.

Families across the area will have a chance to celebrate the Easter season together with a fun-filled community event coming up in Grayson.
Grayson Tourism is inviting the public to its third annual Community Easter Egg Hunt, set to take place on Saturday, April 4th at 2:00 p.m.
This year’s event will be held on the lawn of Kentucky Christian University, offering plenty of open space for children and families to spread out and enjoy the afternoon.
The egg hunt is open to children ages zero through fourteen, and organizers say there will be a variety of activities designed to make it a fun and welcoming experience for kids of all ages. In addition to the egg hunt itself, participants can also look forward to grand prizes and giveaways, adding a little extra excitement to the day.
Events like this have become a popular tradition in the community, giving families a chance to come together, enjoy the spring weather, and create lasting memories.
Organizers say they are looking forward to another strong turnout this year and encourage families to arrive a little early to make sure children are ready when the hunt begins.
Again, the Community Easter Egg Hunt hosted by Grayson Tourism will take place Saturday, April 4th at 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Kentucky Christian University in Grayson.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the West end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage located along US 60, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from March 25th through the 27th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Again, dumpsters are open today through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the West end site in Olive Hill.
