Carter County Schools and Northeast Headstart are teaming up once again to welcome the next generation of learners, with preschool registration for Fall 2025 just around the corner.

To qualify, children must be 4 years old by August 1st, or 3 years old with a documented disability. Registration will take place across two days in early June: Monday, June 2nd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Prichard Elementary and Tuesday, June 3rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Olive Hill Elementary.

Families whose children will attend Prichard, Heritage, or Star Elementary should register at Prichard Elementary. Those planning to attend Carter City, Olive Hill, or Tygart Creek will register at Olive Hill Elementary. Students enrolling in Northeast Headstart may register at either location.

To complete registration, be sure to bring the following: Original birth certificate, current immunization records, proof of income (such as a W-2 or check stub), proof of residence (utility bill), along with a physical and eye exam on the official Kentucky forms.

If you have questions or need additional information, you can contact Preschool Director Nellie Wright at 606-474-6696, ext. 20210. Early education makes a big difference, so don’t miss the chance to get your little one ready for a bright start this fall!

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the East end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage in Grayson, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Wednesday through Friday.

As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Olive Hill maintenance garage along US 60 from May 21st through May 23rd.

This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.

Again, dumpsters are open this Wednesday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the East end site in Grayson
