Grayson Memory Days is fast approaching, and this week during our newscast we’re going to be taking a look at all of the fun that’s planned. As always the community is gearing up for a celebration that blends tradition, talent, and small-town spirit. The festivities kick off in earnest on Thursday, May 22nd, with a day packed full of events that welcome visitors and residents alike back to Main Street.
At 11:00 AM, the Golden Age Gala gets the ball rolling at 4-Ever After Weddings & Events, honoring local seniors with a touch of elegance and appreciation. Later that afternoon, downtown begins to buzz as merchant and food vendors open shop along Pomeroy Street and at The Blue Goose Building starting at 4:00 PM. Shoppers and snackers can explore local offerings while enjoying the return of the Arts Contest, where artwork from the community will be displayed in storefronts and public spaces throughout the heart of town.
The official Opening Ceremonies take place at 6:00 PM on the Go Radio Stage, with a moving veterans’ tribute, guest speakers, and a ceremonial ribbon cutting. Community members are encouraged to bring a comfortable chair and stay for the evening’s entertainment, including a performance by the Dance with Hope troupe at 6:30 PM, followed by the lively sounds of City Heat at 8:00 PM.
Friday, May 23rd builds on the momentum with a slate of events that highlight Grayson’s deep roots in creativity and community. One of the most anticipated annual traditions—the Duane Suttles Memorial Day BBQ—starts at 4:00 PM on East Third Street. Sponsored by First National Bank, this fan-favorite fills the air with the unmistakable aroma of grilled goodness until the food runs out.
Over at Bayless Memorial Presbyterian Church, families are invited to the Ice Cream Social on the church lawn from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, a sweet opportunity to catch up with old friends. And over at the Grayson Art Gallery, the East Carter High School Student Art Show will be open from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, featuring student creations, live music, and refreshments.
Friday night ends on a high note with the 2025 Memory Days Battle of the Bands at 7:30 PM. Whether you’re a fan of rock, bluegrass, or anything in between, this showdown of local musical talent is always a crowd-pleaser.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet – known as the KYTC – is warning Kentuckians of fraudulent text messages impersonating tolling agencies, which feature a suspicious link similar to the KYTC licensing website address.
If you receive one of these texts, do not click the link. Even if the website or link looks like it belongs to KYTC, the text is a scam. KYTC will not send text messages to collect tolls, and we are taking appropriate steps to have the fraudulent websites taken down.
The scam messages warn customers of unpaid tolls, and indicate fees will be incurred if payment is not sent immediately.
If you have provided any personal information, contact your bank immediately. You can also report this to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) at www.ic3.gov, or to the Federal Trade Commission at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov, or visit the Kentucky Office of the Attorney General website, www.ag.ky.gov, to follow their guidance concerning potential identity theft. You can also forward the suspicious message to 7726 (SPAM) to alert your mobile provider as well.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the West end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage along US 60, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Wednesday through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage along US 60 from May 28th through May 30th.
