Several local organizations and churches are stepping up to open their doors and provide information about local food pantries and where Carter Countians can turn if they need a little help putting food on the table, so that everyone in our community knows no one has to face that struggle alone.

For the little ones, learning can be the best kind of fun — especially when it comes with stories, snacks, and laughter. The Laugh and Learn series is back this month, and it’s designed especially for children five and under and their caregivers. It’s a chance to spend some time together exploring stories, making crafts, and building memories that will last long after the glue and glitter are gone.
There are two sessions to choose from: the first coming up on November 7th at the Olive Hill Church of Christ, and then a second holding a week later on November 14th at the Carter County Extension Playroom. Both run from 10:00 to 11:30 am, giving you a fun and meaningful way to start your morning.
It’s a free event, filled with laughter, learning, and a sense of connection that makes this community so special. So bring your little one, bring your curiosity, and come ready to play, learn, and make a few happy memories along the way.
Because sometimes, the best lessons start with a story, a smile, and a little laughter shared between friends.

The Olive Hill City Council will be holding a public hearing along with a special monthly meeting this evening at 6pm inside the Olive Hill Police Station. The agenda for today’s meeting includes but is not limited to the following items: the public hearing consists of a staff presentation for the proposed 2025 property tax rate which is unchanged from 2024 and a time for public comments. Following will be the special meeting that will cover the first reading of ordinance 2025-6 which also deals with property taxes.
Once again this will be a public hearing along with a special monthly meeting this evening at 6pm inside the Olive Hill Police Station.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the West end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage along US 60, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from November 12th through the 14st.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful.
Again, dumpsters are open today through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the West end site in Olive Hill.
