Carter County clean up dumpster will be on the EAST END this week and open Wednesday through Friday (10/14 - 10/16) 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM

Local businesses, government offices, and community members will have an opportunity to learn more about protecting themselves from online threats during an upcoming cybersecurity workshop in Grayson.

The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security is partnering with the FIVCO Area Development District to host the workshop on Tuesday, September 29th, at the FIVCO office in Grayson at 1pm.

The event is free to attend, and everyone is welcome.

The goal is to help participants better understand today’s cyber risks and learn about no-cost resources that may be available to help businesses and local governments strengthen their cybersecurity.

Organizers say the workshop will feature guest speakers from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the Kentucky Army National Guard, and local experts, depending on the location.

It’s an opportunity to learn more about the threats organizations and individuals may face online, ask questions, and find out about resources that can help improve cyber resilience.

For local businesses and government offices, cybersecurity can be an important part of protecting information, maintaining services, and preparing for potential online threats. This workshop is designed to provide useful information and connect attendees with resources without charging an attendance fee.

Again, the cybersecurity workshop hosted by the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security and FIVCO Area Development District is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29th, at the FIVCO office in Grayson scheduled for 1pm.

Registration is required. You can sign up online using the registration link provided in the FIVCO Area Development District’s announcement.

If you receive SNAP benefits here in Kentucky, there’s an important update you’ll want to be aware of as we head into October.

The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services is reminding SNAP recipients that benefit amounts will change beginning October 1st, 2026, as part of the program’s annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment, or COLA.

This is a routine yearly adjustment to SNAP benefit amounts, but it does mean the amount deposited to your household could be different beginning next month.

The exact amount of SNAP benefits a household receives depends on several factors, including the number of people in the household, household income, and allowable expenses. So, the change will not necessarily be the same for everyone receiving SNAP.

And there is an important point for current recipients: you do not need to take any action because of this particular update.

The Cabinet says you should simply continue doing what you normally do with your SNAP benefits. That means completing your regular recertification when it’s due and continuing to report changes in your household circumstances when you’re required to do so.

So, if you’re a SNAP recipient and you notice that your monthly benefit amount is different beginning in October, that change may be the result of the annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment.

Again, SNAP benefit amounts will be updated beginning October 1st, and your new monthly amount will depend on your household’s individual circumstances, including household size, income and allowable expenses.

No special application or action is required for the COLA update itself.

If you have questions about SNAP benefits, eligibility, or your individual case, more information is available through the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Department for Community Based Services.

You can find that information online at chfs.ky.gov. And remember: continue to complete your regular recertifications and report changes when required.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the West end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage located along US 60, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.

As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the Grayson maintenance garage from September 30th through October 2nd.

This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Again, dumpsters are open today through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the West end site in Olive Hill.
