If you’ve ever wondered what might be hiding out in the woods of Carter County, you’ll have a chance to get up close and personal with the legend at the Carter County Bigfoot Fest, coming up Saturday, September 12th in Olive Hill.
The Carter County Bigfoot Group is getting ready for a full day of family fun, entertainment, food, vendors and, of course, plenty of Bigfoot.
The festival runs from 10:00 this morning until 8:00 tonight at 140 Railroad Street in Olive Hill, and there will be something happening throughout the day.
More than 40 craft vendors will be on hand, along with food trucks, a kids zone, Bigfoot photo opportunities, raffles and a kids cookie bake-off.
And if you’re looking for entertainment, the schedule is packed.
Things get started at 10:00 with Charlie Raymond opening the festival and Charles Romans speaking, along with the start of the cookie contest. Lacey Williams takes the stage at 11:00, followed by Michael Cook at noon. At 1:00, it’s Ron Lanham and Joe Perdue with Wild and Weird West Virginia.
Then at 2:00, things get even more interesting with the cookie and window contest winners announced, the Little Bigfoot Hunt winner, a sponsorship drawing, the Bigfoot Costume Contest and the Bigfoot Holler Contest for both kids and adults.
Music continues throughout the afternoon with Mike Miller at 3:00, Charlie Raymond at 4:00 and David Hardie at 5:00.
At 6:00, there will be raffles and an open mic for Bigfoot sightings, giving you the perfect opportunity to share your own encounter with the unknown.
And then the day wraps up with live music from Neon Country from 7:00 until 8:00.
So bring the family, bring your curiosity and maybe keep your eyes on the tree line.

The Carter County Soil Conservation District is announcing the start of its 2026 Fall Chemical Cost Share program which began this week and is set to continue until available funding runs out.
The program provides a 50/50 cost share for the Noxious Weed Program and is available to Carter County residents who have a valid Carter County Farm Number.
There is an important change to the program this year. Each farm number may be used for only one reimbursement, with a maximum reimbursement of $80.00.
To qualify, purchases must be made on or after September 1st. Purchases made before September 1st will not be eligible for reimbursement, and cash purchases will not be accepted.
Participants must provide proof of purchase, including a receipt, along with either a copy of the cancelled check or documentation showing the purchase was made with a credit or debit card.
Reimbursements will be issued once a month to those who participate, while funding remains available. Receipts should be submitted to Courtney Bond at the Carter County Soil Conservation District, located at 526 East Main Street in Grayson. Again, the 2026 Fall Chemical Cost Share is now actively underway and each valid Carter County Farm Number may be used for one reimbursement of up to $80.00, while funding remains available.

The Carter County Clean-Up campaign continues this week, with crews operating on the East end of the county. Dumpsters will be available for public use at the county maintenance garage located in Grayson, and clean-up personnel will be on hand to help unload items each day from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, today through Friday.
As a reminder, the list of items not accepted has been updated. Crews will not collect refrigerators, deep freezers, televisions, household garbage, paint, tires, or batteries. And all materials brought to the site must be bagged or boxed — no loose items will be accepted. The County Clean-Up runs on a rotating schedule, alternating between the East and West ends of Carter County every two weeks. After this week’s collection, dumpsters are scheduled to return to the maintenance garage located along US 60 from September 9th through the 11th.
This valuable community service is made possible by the Carter County Solid Waste Department, who continue to support these efforts to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe, and beautiful. Again, dumpsters are open today through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, at the West end site in Olive Hill.
