1942 -2025
Anne Wood, 83, of Ashland, KY passed away Friday, May 30th, 2025 at University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was born on February 28th, 1942 in Ironton, OH to the late Owen and Belle Walker Sammons.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wood; maternal grandparents, Joe Cecil and Carrie Sloan Walker; paternal grandparents, Charles and Emma Vincent Sammons; a brother, William “Bill” Owen Sammons; a son, John William Vice.
Anne was a graduate of Prichard High School and University of Charleston, ADRN; she was retired from Cabell Huntington Hospital and Our Lady of Bellefonte; she also had worked at Three Rivers Hospital and CAMA Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg, Friends of Hospice, and Nurse Honor Guard of the River Cities. She was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed cooking, listening to music, helping others, estate sales and antiquing, and taking care of her fur babies, Libby and Precious and her Grand Donkey, Diesel.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lea Sparks (Michael Malone) of Grayson, KY; a sister-in-law, Anna Kay Littleton of Grayson, KY; cousins, Don Kazee, David Kazee, Danny Walker, Mary K. Sexton, Bev Fraley, and Carl Fraley; a sharing giving, caring friend , Kathy Adams.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sparks Funeral Home, Joe Ed Rice, and Chris Kazee, ministers. The Nurse Honor Guard of the River Cities will pay tribute to her prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Raley Walker, Jr., Bill Walker, Danny Walker, David Kazee, and Michael Malone and two honorary pallbearers, Joe Walker, and Don Kazee.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025 from Noon until service time at the funeral home.
