Arnold Alvin Coburn, 90, of Flatwoods, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Born on May 17, 1935, in Greenup, Arnold was the beloved son of the late Leonard and Verna Mae Gillum Coburn.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters—Lucy May Robinson, Mary Elizabeth Williams, Faye Powers, and Donna Isaacs—and six brothers—Paul, Donald, Silas, Larry, Jim, and Earvan Coburn.
A dedicated and honorable man, Arnold served his country with pride in the US Army. Following his service, he devoted many years to Arch Coal Corporation before retiring. A faithful Christian, Arnold found joy in spending quality time with his family and enjoying the outdoors, especially fishing.
Arnold is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Wilma A. Coburn; his children, Cristina McDavid of Flatwoods, Karen (Jack) Coburn of Ashland, Susan (Jason) Somon of Greenup, and Scott (Angie) Coburn of Florence, KY; nine cherished grandchildren, Craig McDavid, Kayla Whitley, Megan Dillon, Andrew Coburn, Jack Coburn, Grace Somon, Gabbie Somon, Dawson Somon, and Zoe Somon; seven great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Christopher, Arnold, Oliver, Logan, and Willow; and four sisters, Jean (Ken) Hensley of Tennessee, Minnie (Grant) Carter, Linda (Bobby) Tussey, both of Grayson, and Karen (Eddie) Rogers of Ashland. He is also mourned by a host of friends and extended family members.
A graveside service honoring Arnold’s life and service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast, with full military honors. Friends and family are invited to share condolences and memories at www.malonefuneralhome.com.
