Cathy Buretta Waugh Swinford, age 73, of Ashland, Kentucky, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the UK Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Born on February 29, 1952, Cathy was a beloved daughter of the late Everett and Ruby Carpenter Waugh. She was preceded in death by her cherished sister, Sherrie Lynn Waugh Badgett.
Cathy dedicated many years of her life to serving as a sales clerk at JC Penney, where her warm smile and kind demeanor touched the lives of countless customers and colleagues. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family and faith. A member of Coalton Baptist Church, Cathy found joy and solace in her spiritual community.
In her free time, Cathy found peace and happiness in her flower beds, cultivating beauty in her surroundings. She was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for western novels, which transported her to different worlds and adventures.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband, James Orville Swinford, who stood by her side through thick and thin. She is also survived by her son, Christopher Michael Akers of Louisiana, and her two beloved grandchildren, Emma and Austin Akers, who brought her immense joy and pride. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of friends and extended family who will forever cherish her memory and the love she shared.
A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 3 PM at the Malone Funeral Home, with Bro. Paul Holbrook officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 PM, allowing friends and family to gather. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.malonefuneralhome.com.
