Charles Alfred Thompson, age 79, of Porstmouth, Ohio, formerly of Ashland, Kentucky and Vanceburg, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025, at Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born May 18, 1945, in Ashland, Kentucky, a son of the late Clyde Charles and Frances Alene Thompson.
Charles was a 1963 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, Kentucky; served 19 years combined service in the Army and Air Force Reserves; 201st Engineer, Army National Guard, Ashland, Kentucky, 907th Civil Engineers Rickenbacker Air Force Base, Columbus, Ohio; a lifetime member of the American Veterans-Jesse Stewart Post #95, Greenup, Kentucky; member of the American Legion-Clarence Fields Post #76, Ashland, Kentucky; Member of the Loyal Order of Moose-Lodge #892, Ashland, Kentucky; Member Fraternal Order of Eagles-Aerie #2329, Ashland, Kentucky; Commissioned a KY Colonel in 1980; retired from Ashland Works of Armco/AK Steel Corp; 43-year employee in the maintenance department assigned to the Blast Furnace unit.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Meredith M. And Verna Boggs Thompson; maternal grandparents, Alfred Junior and Pearl Bryan Densmore; father and mother-in-law, Douglas H. And Erdena Wills Hester of Vanceburg, Kentucky.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Judy K. Hester Thompson; two sisters, Sandra Kay Henry of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Brenda Joan Thompson of Lexington, Kentucky, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Lewis County Memory Gardens with Brother Wes Cooper officiating.
Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside by Monte Lewis Stamm Post 5438.
