Charles Douglas Kennedy, age 74, of Grayson, Kentucky, peacefully departed this life on Friday, July 4, 2025, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. Born on June 18, 1951, in Canton, Ohio, Charlie was the cherished son of the late Charles Ray Kennedy and Doris J. Lawhun Kennedy.
Charlie was a devoted family man, whose love and dedication to his wife, children, and grandchildren were evident in every aspect of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Chalma Reddix Kennedy, and their three daughters: Melissa Kennedy of Oldtown, Dana Neal of Paris, Kentucky, and Stacy (Tim) Lyons of Owingsville. He also leaves behind two sons, Jonathan (Lori) Kennedy of Oldtown and Steve Kennedy of Lexington, along with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts. Charlie is also survived by his sister, Karen (Don) Fraley of Grayson, and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss his presence.
Charlie dedicated his career to the plumbing and pipefitting industry, working with Local 452 out of Lexington, Kentucky. His strong work ethic and commitment to his craft were matched only by his passion for life. He found joy in simple pleasures—gathering with loved ones for meals, sharing stories, and caring for his beloved cat, Samson. Charlie’s warmth, humor, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Peyton Leigh Neal, and two sisters, Darlene Spillman and Donna Jackson. Their memories will forever be cherished by those who loved them.
Funeral services to honor Charlie’s life will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Malone Funeral Home, with Bro. Tim French officiating. Visitation will take place from 11 AM Thursday until the service hour. A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
