Charles Ray Claxon, 78, of Grayson, Kentucky, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
Born on November 11, 1947, in Ashland, Kentucky, Charles was the beloved son of the late Elmer and Thelma Riffe Claxon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Trish (Bill) Gullett, and his brother, Jimmy (Bessie) Claxon.
Charles was a man who believed deeply in the value of hard work and dedication. He retired from the CSX Railroad Raceland Shops, where he worked faithfully as a blacksmith helper. Outside of his career, Charles found his greatest joys in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. He had a true passion for musky fishing and proudly served as Vice President of the Kentucky Silver Musky Club, where he shared both his knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow anglers. He also enjoyed hunting, tending to his garden, and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats.
Above all, Charles treasured his family. His love for them was evident in the time he spent, the stories he shared, and the steady support he offered. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and unwavering loyalty.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Brenda Gilbert Claxon; his two stepsons, Jody (Daylena) Gilbert of Grayson, Kentucky, and Randy Gilbert of Ironton, Ohio; three sisters, Debbie (Maurice) Vanbibber of Greenup, Kentucky, Linda (Steve) Hunt of South Shore, Kentucky, and Margaret (Richard) Smallwood of Greenup, Kentucky; along with his cherished nieces and nephews and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will deeply mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Malone Funeral Home, with Bro. Jim Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Kiser-McGinnis Cemetery.
