Danny Ray Kelly, 77, of Grayson, Kentucky, was called home to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 5, 1948, in Hitchins, Kentucky, Danny was the cherished son of the late Kathleen Kelly Swanagan. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Ray Swanagan; his step-brother, Paul Swanagan; his beloved grandson, Joshua Griffith; his son-in-law, James Griffith; and his loyal canine companion, Tucker.
A devoted member of Chinns Branch Freewill Baptist Church, Danny dedicated his life to sharing the gospel of God’s love. Though he retired from AK Steel, his true calling was as a preacher, traveling to numerous churches to touch the hearts of lost souls and help them feel the warmth of Jesus’ love. Danny’s faith was a guiding light in his life, and his small stature belied the enormous personality that radiated joy and kindness. He had a smile that could brighten the darkest days and a heart that welcomed everyone as a friend.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Harris Kelly; his son, Danny Kelly, Jr. of Grayson; and his two daughters, Kateena Griffith of Grayson and Kimberly (Barry) Forbes of Argillite. He was blessed with six adoring grandchildren and one precious great-granddaughter, along with a wide circle of extended family and friends who will deeply mourn his passing.
A celebration of Danny’s life will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 1 PM at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson, with Bro. Keith Hill and Bro. Eddie Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Cribbs Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until the service hour on Thursday.
In this time of sorrow, the family invites you to share your condolences and memories at www.malonefuneralhome.com. Danny’s legacy of love, faith, and friendship will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
