Derreck Lee King, 64, of Boyd County, Kentucky, was called home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the UK Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Born on February 4, 1961, in Pikeville, Kentucky, he was the beloved son of the late Leo and Barbara Sue King.
Derreck dedicated over 16 years of his life to maintenance work with AEP, having previously contributed his skills to Columbia Gas. His work ethic was matched only by his passion for life, which he lived to the fullest. A devoted family man, Derreck cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, proudly attending their various sporting events and celebrating their achievements.
An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Derreck found joy in the thrill of the game, often sharing his enthusiasm with friends and family. He loved the great outdoors, relishing deer hunting and riding four-wheelers. His playful spirit shone through in his love for shooting pool, listening to music, and working on cars, where he found both solace and satisfaction.
Derreck is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Evelyn Maggard King; two sons, Justin Lee (Rachel) King of North Carolina and Trevor (Angel) King of Ashland; a daughter, April (Jacob) Williams of Ohio; a stepson, Shane Dominic Steed; and eleven cherished grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love. He is also survived by his brother, Christopher Alan King of Canonsburg; his sister, Lanita King Tokish of Lexington; and a host of friends and extended family who will deeply miss his presence.
A celebration of Derreck’s life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1 PM at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson, with Bro. Mickey King officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11 AM until the service hour.
