Edward Strong, age 98, of Garrison, died peacefully Saturday morning June 19, 2026, at S.O.M.C. Hospice Center in Portsmouth Ohio.
Ed was born February 22nd, 1928, in Hamilton County, Ohio, to the late Lewis and Cora Ingram Strong.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, by his loving wife of 60 years, Jean Elizabeth Martin Strong, who passed away on August 27th, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Jessie Sandlin, Alta Walters, Maulta Snider, Haley Bradley and Nancy Fishburne and by his brothers Prise, Walter, Moss, and Charlie. Left to mourn his passing is his daughter Elizabeth Strong of Garrison, and his sons Sam of Australia and Marty of Garrison, Granddaughter Linda Strong of North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews in his extended family.
Ed was a member of the Black Oak Christian Church where he served over the years as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Elder.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Air Force in communications, having attained the rank of Staff Sergent. After his enlistment Ed returned to Berea College, College of Agriculture. He was hired by the University of Kentucky Extension Service and began his career as the Co. 4-H Agent in Greenup Co. In 1959 Ed moved his family to Lewis Co. where he took the job of County Agriculture Agent, where he served until his retirement in 1988. Ed was a big believer in education and was a lifelong learner, earning a Masters Degree as a specialist in Ornamental Horticulture, while at the same time raising his family, working the farm that he and his wife bought in 1966, along with hosting a weekly radio show on WKKS and appearing as a regularly featured special guest on the Saturday morning Farm Report on WSAZ TV and serving as Co. Agent. Besides his church, Ed was active in many community organizations and county committees such as Soil Conversation, Fish and Wildlife, Lions Club. Co. Fair Board, and was also honored to be a Ky Colonel. Even after retirement Ed always strived to keep up with the latest trends in farming, and was extremely proud of his garden, and made rounds every week sharing his bounty with friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be from 10:00 till 12:00 on Thursday June 25th 2026 with services beginning at 12:00 Noon at Globe Funeral
