Gary Philip Hicks, age 85, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 29, 2026, at UK-St. Claire Healthcare in Morehead, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sunday, July 14, 1940, in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late Everett Anderson and Gertrude P’Simer Hicks.
Gary attended Soldier Church of God. He enjoyed traveling, going to Tennessee and Out West, watching UK Basketball and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 18 years, Debra Kay Hargett Hicks; five brothers, Tennyson Hicks, Chalmer Gene Hicks, Cleo Anderson Hicks, Ivan Hicks, Dale Hicks; five sisters, Thelma King Mitchell, Wanda Kegley, Carla Sue Bond, Bonnie Bond and Sharon Cutright.
Gary is survived by three sons, Philip (Jennifer) Hicks of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Shawn (Mira) Hatton, Michael (Jennifer) Hatton, all of Olive Hill, Kentucky; 7 grandchildren, Lauren Hicks, Lainey Hicks, Luka Hicks, Novaleigh Hatton, Amos Hatton, Ava Grace Hatton, Ansley Faith Hatton; 2 great-grandchildren, Grayson Hicks, Ivy Hicks; one sister, Rita (Joey) Bond of Olive Hill, Kentucky, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Hwy 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Michael Hatton and Brother Gary Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Hargett Cemetery on Greasy Creek.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday July 2, 2026, and after 9 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2026, until the service hour at Globe Funeral Chapel.
Philip Hicks, Michael Hatton, Luka Hicks, Shawn Hatton, Steve Lewis, Donnie Waddell, Vernon Kilgore and Troy Conn will serve as pallbearers.
