Janet Church, age 62, of Willard, Kentucky, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, July 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at her residence, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on November 13, 1962, in Ashland, Kentucky, she was the cherished daughter of the late Clara Mae Stevens and Harold Winston Litteral.

Janet was a devoted member of the Willard Church of Christ, where her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ shone brightly. Known affectionately as the “candy lady,” she brought joy to many through her kindness and generosity. Janet had a remarkable ability to uplift those around her, always reminding others of their worth and the goodness within them. Her spirit was a beacon of inspiration, and her legacy of love and compassion will forever be remembered.

An avid lover of nature, Janet found solace in her flower garden, where she nurtured not only her plants but also the wildlife that visited her. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her garden; she was actively involved in her community, serving as a past PTA president at Willard Elementary and a member of Fallsburg Elementary. Janet’s warm smile and friendly demeanor made her a beloved figure during her time as an employee at Wal-Mart and Rite Aid, where she greeted everyone with genuine warmth.

Janet is survived by the love of her life, her devoted husband of 44 years, Johnny Church; her beloved daughter, Taushana Hayes of Grayson; and her grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life: Colten Smith, Kayley Smith, Zack Smith, and Ethan Smith. She is also survived by her two sisters, Judy Bryan of Ashland and Carol (Bobby) Sparks of Grayson; her sister-in-law, Rhonda (Mike) Colley of Louisa; her brother-in-law, James Lee Porter; and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her, Tonya (Tim) Sturgill, Bobby Sparks, Jr., Leona (Anthony) Hargett, Shannon (Dawn) Porter, Mandy Beth (Junior) Barker, John (Alyssa) Porter, and Amber (Pete) Prince. Janet held a special place in her heart for Dr. Derrick Jones and Mark Ratcliff, whom she lovingly referred to as her adopted sons, as well as her dear friends Scott Smith, Karla Wells; he loving caregivers and hospice team especially, Heather Williams and Bonnie Seagraves; and many others who enriched her life.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Ricky Litteral; her mother and father-in-law, Geraldine and John Henry Church; and her sister-in-law, Debbie Porter.

A graveside service to honor Janet’s life will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Church Family Cemetery off All Horn Branch Road in Willard. A procession will depart from the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson at 4 PM Thursday, with services conducted upon arrival at the cemetery, officiated by Bro. Barrett Bush and Bro. Mike Colley.
