Jerry L. Newman, age 67, of Wurtland, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at UK King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Born on August 15, 1958, in Marion, OH, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Charles and Jean Terry Newman. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Williams, and his sister, Deby Knipp.
A dedicated and hardworking individual, Jerry spent 30 years as a Railroad Carmen with CSX Railroad, proudly representing the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen throughout his career. His commitment to his work mirrored his devotion to his family, whom he loved fiercely. Jerry’s happiest moments were spent with his beloved wife of 45 years, Louise Cochran Newman, and their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his sons, Bill (Joanna) Newman of Wurtland, Kentucky, and Jarrod (Pam) Newman of Greenup, Kentucky; his daughter, Amy Newman of Coal Grove, Ohio; nine grandchildren—Haley, Ethan, David, Tommy, Taylor, Jordan, Caleb, Adam, and Gabe; and five great-grandchildren—Aiden, Adalynn, Van, Reagan, and Tori. He also leaves behind three brothers, Bob (Diana) Newman of Grayson, Kentucky, Charles Thomas (Doris) Newman of Richmond, Kentucky, and Terry Williams of Grayson, Kentucky; three sisters, Sue (Charles) Kitchen of Grayson, Kentucky, Debbie Johnson of Grayson, Kentucky, and Dana Moore of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of extended family and friends who will mourn his passing.
Jerry had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities such as golfing, fishing, camping, and working Sudoku puzzles. His vibrant spirit and cheerful disposition will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Bond officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and from 11:00 AM until the service hour on Wednesday, all at Malone Funeral Home.
