Jewell Mildred Thornbury Fosson, 93, of Grayson, KY, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at Community Hospice in Ashland, KY. Born on October 25, 1931,on Lost Creek in Carter County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Ollie and Martha Thornbury.
Jewell was married to her best friend and childhood sweetheart, Arnold Ray Fosson, for 67 years until his passing in 2019. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and love. She is survived by her three children: Janie (Bruce) Stevens, Scott (Kathy) Fosson, and Robert Fosson; seven grandchildren: April (David) Ferguson, Nikki (Jason) James, Will (Vanessa) Stevens, Mandy (Josh) Colley, Brandon Fosson, Casey Flaugher (Andrew) Ramey, and Zack Kinder; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Jewell was a member of Willard Missionary Baptist Church. She dearly loved her church family, and the time that they shared in service, Bible study, and fellowship.
As a skilled homemaker, she found joy in working with her hands–quilting, crocheting, weaving, canning, cooking, and working alongside her family on their farm. She was known near and far as being an exceptional cook. Her family’s favorites were chicken and dumplings, biscuits and gravy, red velvet cake, and strawberry rhubarb pie. It was easy to see that her joy was found in creating a warm, loving home where everyone felt welcome. Her happiest moments were spent gathered with loved ones, especially around her table for Sunday dinner after church.
She had a servant’s heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. Whether caring for her children, her cherished husband Ray, or extended family, Jewell’s life was a testament to selfless love and simplicity. She often reflected that her best years were those spent with Ray on their farm, where they enjoyed evening walks to the creek and listening to the whippoorwills. Their quiet evenings sitting side by side on the porch will remain a treasured memory for all who knew them.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Willard Missionary Baptist Church or Ashland Community Hospice. The family extends their heartfelt thanks for all expressions of love and support during this time.
Jewell’s love and kindness will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
