Katherine Marie “Kathy” Rice, 62, of Grayson, KY went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the UK King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. Kathy was born on Saturday, July 14, 1962, in Ashland, KY, a daughter of the late Charles and Pauline Hensley Rice. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Gracie Smith; two brothers, Jim Rice and Jay Walter Rice; and a nephew, Adam Rice.
Kathy was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of the Coalton First Baptist Church. She worked and retired as a Cafeteria Manager at East Carter High School. Kathy loved her family dearly and was affectionately known as Kat-Bird by those who loved and adored her. Kathy often enjoyed snacking on chips and dip while reading a good book or watching TV.
Kathy is survived by five sisters, Vina Miller of Ashland, Ky, Faye Adkins of Ashland, KY, Brenda McDavid of Grayson, KY, Judy (Jim) Meadows of Grayson, KY, and Carol Ison of Ashland, KY; two brothers, Chuck Rice of Rush, KY, and Don Rice of Grayson, KY; two special nephews, Josh (Sarah) Marshall and Dakota Meadows; a very special niece, Kayla Meadows, whom she loved as her own daughter; and a host of other nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends that mourn her passing.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Josh Marshall, Sarah Marshall, Eric Smith, Chris Rice, Blake Rice, and Scott Miller.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Malone Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Holbrook, officiating. Burial will follow in the Coalton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the service hour on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family, to help with purchasing Kathy a headstone.
