Kathy Sue Fetters Applegate, age 68, of Tollesboro, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2025, at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Wednesday, January 7, 1959, in Mason County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late James R. And Shirley Bryant Fetters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Greta Jane Fetters.

To know Kathy was to love Kathy. She will always be remembered as one of the most loving souls to have ever graced this earth. Whether you were family, a friend, or even a stranger in the grocery store, Kathy’s smile was a gift she shared freely with everyone. She had a heart that saw beauty in the bold and the vibrant, and her passion for life was evident in everything she did. Early in her career, she worked as a dental assistant and later secretary for the family trucking company. After retirement, she opened Kathy’s Greenhouse. She worked her greenhouse with such dedication, ensuring there were enough flowers to brighten nearly every porch in Tollesboro. Even through the trials of chemotherapy, she never stopped nurturing and growing the beauty around her.

Kathy’s love was fierce and unwavering. She loved her Lord with all her heart and has attended Hickory Grove Church in Tollesboro for 45 years. There she enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher. She loved her church and church family with all her heart. She volunteered to Feed-the-Shut-ins in the community. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and her daughters were her closest friends. Her husband, Sammy, was the love of her life and her constant light.

Kathy was sunshine personified… radiant, joyful, and overflowing with love. The warmth of her hugs, the sweet scent of her perfume, and the love she gave so generously will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

She is now dancing, laughing, smiling and singing with our Lord and Savior.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Sammy Applegate; two daughters, Amber (Michael) Kielman of Tollesboro, Kentucky, Penny Stanfield of Maysville, Kentucky; two sisters, Angie Gilbert Kyle of Edgewood, Kentucky and Tara Faith Fetters of Tollesboro, Kentucky; 4 grandchildren, Taylor Stanfield, Logan Stanfield, Mikayla Kielman and Abby Kielman, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.
