Lewis Jay Justice, age 74, of Greenup, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Born on August 22, 1951, he was the cherished son of the late Dewey and Bessie Scott Justice. Lewis was preceded in death by his beloved son, Patrick Jay Justice, as well as several brothers and sisters.
A man of unwavering dedication, Lewis spent many years as a cut machine operator in the coal mines, where his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft were evident. Beyond his professional life, Lewis found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid coon hunter and fisherman.
Above all, Lewis was a devoted family man. He held a special place in his heart for his loving companion, Patricia Justice, with whom he shared many wonderful years. His daughters, Shawna (James) Smith of Narrows, VA, and Sandy (Jamie) McClanahan of Freeburn, KY, along with his son, Lewis Jay (Cindy McAlister) Justice, Jr. of Cross Lanes, WV. Lewis was a doting grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Brad Smith, J.D. (Valerie) Smith, David Smith, Adam Smith, James Lee Smith, Robert Smith, Austin (Angel) McClanahan, Kayleigh Justice, T.J. McClanahan, Bentley Holbrook, and Keelean Justice, and he was blessed with one great-grandchild, Kenslee McClanahan.
Lewis is also survived by his three brothers, Arnold (Carol) Justice of Trenton, MI, Ervin “Bo” (Dale) Justice, and Dave “DaDa” Justice, both of Stopover, KY; two sisters, Marie “Ree” (Morris) Casey of Freeburn, KY, and Joyce “Joy” Justice of Phelps, KY; and a special family friend, Chris Lykins, whom Lewis regarded as a son. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will deeply mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson, KY, with burial to follow in the Wolford Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Friday from 9:00 AM until the service hour.
