Mary Lou Fleming Greer, a cherished resident of Grayson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at the age of 95, surrounded by her loving family. A beloved pillar of her community, Mary Lou was known for her quick wit, sharp mind, and empathetic heart. She had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone she met, offering warm hugs, a listening ear, and much-needed laughter, making all who crossed her path feel truly seen and loved. Born on March 29, 1930, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Mary Lou was the daughter of Wade W. Fleming and Jessie Liming Schmidt. She later moved to Grayson, Kentucky, where she met and married the love of her life, Morton “Red” Greer. Their 55 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising five children together. Mary Lou’s devotion to her family extended to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and inspired. A dedicated member of Oak Grove Church for 62 years, Mary Lou taught Sunday school and sang in the choir with joy and conviction. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her in her service to others. During World War II, she proudly served as a Purple Commando in Pennsylvania, supporting the war efforts from the home front. Later, she became a devoted Boy Scout leader, shaping young lives with her patience and wisdom. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morton “Red” Greer; her parents, Wade Fleming and Jessie Liming; her sister, Frances Pino; her sons, Danny “Dog” Greer and Robert “Pup” Greer; her grandson, Michael “Little Mike” Greer; and her dear friends, Mildred Marshall and Helen Maggard. She is survived by her children, Mike (Janet) Greer, Gwen Barker, and Jeff (Dreama) Greer; daughter in law, Rita Greer of Lexington; her grandchildren, Jarrod Greer, Mikki Bradley, Louanne (Richard) Prater, Mandi (Joe) Barker, Chad (Dena) Kiger, Jody (Hilary) Greer, Morgan Greer, Kyle Greer, Emily (Conner) Staton, Amie (Damion) Sparks-Beebe, Albrey (Damon) Mathews, Morton (Heather) Greer, and Kristen (Ricky) Wilson; as well as many great and great-great-grandchildren. Mary Lou also leaves behind special friends, including Linda Damron, Olive Isaacs, Betty Kozee, Brenda Simpson, Brenda Whitaker, and Sandra Brooks. A celebration of Mary Lou’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Oak Grove Church of Christ, with Bro. Donald Damron and Bro. Tim Carper officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Greer, Jody Greer, Trevor Prater, Jarrod Greer, Morton Greer, Chad Kiger, and Zach Collins, with Steven Yates and Darrell Coates serving as honorary pallbearers.
