Mary Magdalene Chaffin Waddell, age 83, of Grayson, Kentucky, left for her eternal home on the 14th of February, 2026, from the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky, following a brief illness.
She was born to the late Jay T. and Gladys Faye Hughes Chaffin on April 11, 1941, in Logan County, West Virginia.
Mary attended Logan High School before graduating from Louisa High School in 1959. She then attended Ashland business School and worked at Ashland Oil for 17 years before retiring to become a wonderful full-time mom and homemaker. A Christian for many decades, she most recently attended Free Will Baptist Churches. Over the years she enjoyed camping, eating out, watching T.V., the order of the Eastern Star, word searches, and most recently, her cherished conversations with her grandsons, Logan and Wyatt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Rose Wells; a son, David Waddell; a daughter, Pam Waddell; and her granddaughter, Emily Waddell.
Mary is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Elwood Talmadge Waddell, Sr., of Grayson, Kentucky; her son, Elwood Talmadge “E.T.” (Laura) Waddell, of Beavercreek, Ohio, a son, Larry (Regina) Waddell, of Pedro, Ohio; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and countless friends and extended family members left to cherish her memory.
Funeral Services will be held, 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Grayson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 49 McCoy Road, Grayson, Kentucky with Brother David Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast.
Friends may visit from 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Grayson Funeral Home until the service hour.
Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
