Richard Ison, 85, of Grayson, KY, departed this life to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at his residence. Born on April 18, 1941, in Grayson, he was the cherished son of the late William and Virgie Hill Ison.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sue Adkins; two brothers, James Ison and Glen Ison; five sisters, Louise Meenach, Hattie Tussey, Ernestine Grooms, Geneva Hamilton, and Lottie Mae Blevins.
Richard retired after many years with the Kentucky Department of Transportation. Richard had a strong work ethic and profound love for his family. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he found great joy in being a faithful member of the Calvary Temple Apostolic Church.
In his spare time, Richard was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, and he enjoyed tinkering and fixing things around the house. He also found joy in playing the banjo and harmonica and visiting flea markets.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Holbrook Ison; one son, Richard Keith Ison (Marrisa Jackson) of Ashland, KY; two daughters, Rita (Carlo) Barker of Olive Hill, KY, and Carol Johnson of Grayson, KY; one son-in-law, Mark Adkins; as well as five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Phillip (Linda) Ison of Olive Hill, KY, and Denny (Johnice) Ison of Grayson, KY; two sisters, Barb Horton of Greenup, KY, and Loretta (Jim) Martin of Olive Hill, KY; along with a host of extended family and friends who will mourn his passing.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Malone Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Bro. Steve Adams and Bro.
